Westport's Joan Burman, Teacher In Fairfield, Dies

A longtime teacher in the Fairfield School District has died

Joan Burman died Sunday, June 2 at her home in Westport. She was 73.

Burman taught special education and elementary education in Fairfield Public Schools. 

She was born on Oct. 21, 1945, in Bridgeport to the late Benjamin and Blanche Miller. 

Burman graduated from the University of Bridgeport and received her master's degree from Fairfield University. 

She is survived by husband Richard Burman; sisters, Vivian Hyman (Herbert Savitt) and Betsy Radler; brother in law Morton Burman (Diane); nephews Thomas Hyman (Sally) and John Hyman (Merri); niece Allyson Kapadia (Yazdi); nephews Edward Burman(Ann) and Mitchell Burman; and several great-nieces, nephews and friends. 

There was a memorial service June 4 in Westport.
